In hopes of proving that we do get some work done around here I wanted to showcase the boys note-taking skills that they have been working on in science class. For science this trimester we are learning about space exploration and some of this topic is a review for the boys since they studied space a few years ago.
To start the unit I told the boys that I wanted them to create a "space" themed bulletin board showcasing information they had learned the last time they studied space. Quickly the wheels were turning... they decided they wanted to create a scale model of the solar system on the bulletin board and include fact sheets for each of the planets in the solar system to include on the board.
The boys divided up the planets and agreed on the different facts they wanted to find out for each planet (i.e. distance from the sun, number of satellites and rings, size, length of year and so on.) Then came the note taking...
Usually I give the boys outlines when they work on research projects to help them organize the information they are trying to collect. But this year... they are all on their own!
They used their notebooks to take notes for each of the planets they are researching. I was impressed by how organized their notes were AND that both of them ended up re-writing some of their notes that were hard to understand (WITHOUT BEING TOLD TO DO SO!)
Quinn looks like her got "caught" in the act of note-taking!
How fun! I'm quite impressed that the boys re-wrote the notes on their own-- that's great! I loved your first day of school stories as well.
ReplyDeleteCan I introduce myself? My name is Elizabeth, and I really want to meet you. My husband and I stayed in Monhegan for our honeymoon a couple of years ago, and I'm rather in love with the Island. Also, I'm a young teacher, and I love reading this blog! (I found you sometime last spring, I believe.)
I have so many questions I would love to ask you! I don't see your email here, and so I'll leave mine, in case you have the opportunity to email me! (kramer dot elizabeth dot a at gmail dot com)
I hope you all have a delightful week!
