Morse Code!

In case you didn't know, Samuel Finley Breese Morse's birthday was last Friday, April 27th, so we of course had to celebrate his birthday during morning meeting and project time!

The question on morning message asked the kids to write their names in a special code that they could only understand...

For morning project we each created our own secret code, making-up special symbols for every letter in the alphabet!

And then we wrote secret notes to one another!

The boys used actual "Morse Code" to write their notes...

But Quinn wanted to create his own special code too, how could I say no to this face?

This turned into a pretty awesome spelling lesson for our kindergartner who had to sound out a lot of words in order to figure out which symbols to use!

After we wrote our notes, we swapped them so the note recipient could try and translate!

Who knew that Samuel Morse's birthday could be so fun! I do love a good morning project :)
